Live Music: “Da Bi Zi (大鼻子)” – French hiphop/jazz fusion with Chinese characteristics!

Dabizi 大鼻子 Live at GinkgoNext Performance: 10:30pm Friday 29th January (Free B4 9:30pm / 20 RMB after)

Da Bi Zi (大鼻子) are a French hip hop outfit based in Beijing, who perform hiphop and jazz acoustic songs with a Chinese twist incorporating many traditional Chinese instruments.  They also bring to the stage outlandish costumes, theatrical performances and a unique style that always impresses.

The Band is composed of 6 members, a bassist form France, guitarist from China, an Erhu (二胡) performer from Taiwan (she also sings Jazz tracks), a Yangqin (扬琴) player from China, a DJ from the USA, and an MC from France. This original mix of classic instruments (Guitar/Bass) and Chinese traditional ones (Erhu/Yangqin) creates a really different Hip Hop/Jazz sound. Combine that with a beautiful Taiwanese voice, and a crazy French MC who uses 3 languages (English, Chinese and French) and you have the makings for a great evening of live music.

Live Music: “Mbeewan and the Chi’n'i Band” – The Final Reggae Show!

Mbeewan and the Chi'n'i Band

Join us for Mbeewan’s final show of the Summer before Moussa returns to France!

Mbeewan (Moussa Boudra), a multi-instrumentalist and composer-songwriter for more than 10 years, is the lead singer of iRieTEAM, a French Nu-Roots Reggae band created 5 years ago, and whose first album will be released in 2009.

Reggae, rock, dub, rap and soul are the main influences which guide Mbeewan’s music. The rhythms go from ska to ragga-dancehall, but always keep a dominant reggae-roots touch, which make it a very distinctive and hardly definable reggae.

Mbeewan played with a lot of famous French bands such as:
Dub Incorporation, Aswad, Israel Vibration, Alpha Blondy, Dobacaracol, Bawa, Abdou Day, Kaly Live Dub, Ministère des Affaires Populaires, Kana, Les Wampas, Les Caméléons, Riké, Raspigaous, K2R Riddim, Killa Karltoon…

Mbeewan will be in Beijing this summer backed by Chinese musicians (Chi’n’I Band). They will play iRieTEAM’s original new songs, unpublished works for China, and some covers.

Join us at Ginkgo on 4th September for their final performance!

Free Entry before 9:30pm. 20 RMB after.

Live Music: “Mbeewan and the Chi’n’I Band” – Live Reggae Party

Mbeewan and the Chi'n’I Band

Mbeewan (Moussa Boudra), a multi-instrumentalist and composer-songwriter for more than 10 years, is the lead singer of iRieTEAM, a French Nu-Roots Reggae band created 5 years ago, and whose first album will be released in 2009.

Mbeewan is willing to unite people around a message which breaks the borders of reggae and of generations, thanks to its multiple influences.
Reggae, rock, dub, rap and soul are the main influences which guide Mbeewan’s music. The rhythms go from ska to ragga-dancehall, but always keep a dominant reggae-roots touch, which make it a very distinctive and hardly definable reggae.

Mbeewan’s songs are definitely militant and deal with topics such as ecology, religion, wars, racism and crisis linked to identity, as well as conflicts destroying Africa and the Middle-East.

Mbeewan played with a lot of famous French bands such as:
Dub Incorporation, Aswad, Israel Vibration, Alpha Blondy, Dobacaracol, Bawa, Abdou Day, Kaly Live Dub, Ministère des Affaires Populaires, Kana, Les Wampas, Les Caméléons, Riké, Raspigaous, K2R Riddim, Killa Karltoon…
